The Collect

St John Baptist’s Day

Almighty God, by whose providence thy servant John Baptist was wonderfully born, and sent to prepare the way of thy Son our Saviour, by preaching of repentance; Make us so to follow his doctrine and holy life, that we may truly repent according to his preaching; and after his example constantly speak the truth, boldly rebuke vice, and patiently suffer for the truth’s sake; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Bells Restoration Project

Bell Castin

We are delighted that the project is nearing completion and that building work has started. In fact, the gallery is now complete and ready for use as soon as the bells are restored and, along with the new bells, are replaced in the tower. We anticipate this will happen during October 2010.

The new bells have already been cast at Whitechapel Bell Foundry, London. A small group were able to witness the casting of the three new bells and this proved to be what one witness called a very moving experience.

Although nearing completion we are still in need of around £5000 and we hope to raise this in the next few months. We are extremely grateful to the large number of individuals who have generously donated to the project and we hope all who have done so appreciate how grateful we are. We have also been successful in obtaining grants from a number of sources and, again, we are pleased to express our gratitude to these organisations:

  • Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust
  • Scarfe Trust
  • Scarpe Trust
  • Suffolk County Council
  • Ganzoni Charitable Trust
  • Allchurches Trust Ltd
  • Historic Churches Trust
