Benefice newsletters

The first Parish Magazines for Campsea Ashe were, it is believed, published by Rev Lucas, Rector of the village in the early part of the 20th century. Since then the magazines have grown and were for many years produced as a combined magazine for the four parishes of Campsea Ashe, Hacheston, Marlesford and Parham. In July 2022 a new format for the magazine was established and A Slice of Suffolk, as it is now called, is the magazine for the whole benefice of seven Churches including Kettleburgh, Easton and Brandeston.

The magazines are, of course, really a source of information about local activities in any particular month and enable residents to find out about what is going on. For those interested in the history and heritage of the village they are invaluable as they record what has happened, have stories about individuals and have all sorts of details that are worth exploring. They also contain advertisements that record the types of businesses working in the villages.

1907 - 1913 Magazines

The Suffolk Records Office in Ipswich holds copies of these magazines.

1942

The earliest magazine we hold is for May 1942 and a scanned version can be accessed below.

1970 to 2008 Magazines

A summary of all the magazines from 1970 through to 2008 has been made by a member of the Heritage Group, Peter Carter, who has studied all these editions. The summary can be viewed here. As well as the summary, Peter has saved snippets from some of the early magazines and they can be viewed here. They contain some fascinating articles and pictures that reflect the life of our village in the late 20th century and are well worth exploring.
